This would be connected to AP Human Geography through Chapter 5, Language. This chapter explains what a language is and throughly defines the definition of dialect (regional variation of a language distinguished distinctive vocabulary, spelling, and pronunciation) and Ebonics (Africian American dialect).
Why i chose this topic?
I chose this topic because I have always been fascinated by languages. I think it's awesome that there are so many languages and dialects out there in this world. For my research question, I chose, "How can dialects/ebonics affect your future?" This has always been a question of mine. What shocked me the most is that it is true, there is discrimination out there just from the way you speak! One of the things that shocked me was the statistic that 8 in 10 employers admit to making discriminating decisions based on regional accents.
