DIFFUSION OF VIDEO GAMES ON VIDEO GAME ADDICTION
Video games have been diffused through popular culture. The process in which a country develops (Ch.9) heavily affects how the country will adopt to technology and pop culture(Ch.4). The United States has been heavily diffused through popular culture causing the diffusion of video games. South Korea has also been heavily diffused over the recent century allowing them to become modern.
Technology is a large factor in how video games will diffuse because technology is required to produce and consume video games. Technology acceptance is a major part in this as a country that accepts new technology and ideas are more willing to try out new things such as video games. The drive to adopt to technology is measured by this model:
The willingness to adopt to technology starts with a catalyst of technology. Through this people will find that technology will fit the needs of them culturally, be at ease to use or be useful. Through this they can explore many other parts of technology such as video games, applications, or databases.
Personal Opinion from Experience:
Technology has vastly encouraged this as newer and better ways of playing video games are showing more and more. This is encouraging innovation from old techniques for example from a controller to a "WiiMote". However, this can also backfire(I'm looking at you Xbox Kinect). I am seeing that video games are becoming more and more realistic than the older counterparts and jumping into the black areas of human kind.
I chose this originally because I wanted to see how and why people become so invested in games such as myself. I have played well over 2000+ hours of video games total in my lifetime, which is just a tiny bit too much. Personally, I think that they are merely an escape from reality such as books, movies, and other media in the world. Escapes from reality help one ignore the bad from the world and fill it with a role that they specifically want to play. Through this people become more interested more and more based on how they made themselves in that world or who they become friends with and the experiences that they have with others. As they build more and more onto this they become more attached because of the time they spent making that specific persona or friends they have based on that game. Should a player leave the world for so long they become left behind from the experiences their peers have made. Video games with massive worlds and an online playerbase contribute to this radically because of the amount of content that can be obtained/explored and the amount of people that can be met. However, I do not blame the makers of the games for creating such a world, but the people that play and do not know when to distance themselves from reality and fantasy. They are the only ones that can make a difference to themselves whether it be with help or sheer willpower.
