Floating houses are great for cutting down on urban sprawl. Most people think that a floating house would cost almost double than a regular house. Actually they cost no more than 5% more than a regular one. I also learned that not only is there floating houses but there are floating neighborhoods. Which it looks like a regular neighborhood except there are steel pipes that are in between the houses.
In The Netherlands there are floating apartments that use 25% less than a normal apartment since they use special water cooling techniques. The apartments are also on the coast or near a river. There are communities that are on floating lily pads which can hold up to 50,000 people. The lily pad gets its energy from using wind, tidal, solar, and biomass. It also doesn't cost an emission.
I chose this topic because I always thought the idea of being able to live on or near water was pretty cool. Especially when you don't have to rebuild your home because the water levels rise. It also fits really well with the urban sprawl problems considering that you don't have to build each house separately, you can just build a whole neighborhood on one.
