Capsule hotels are a huge step to help save money and land
How does this relate to ap human geography?
My project about the capsule hotels are related to chapter 2, 12, and 13. In chapter 2, it talks about population. The capsule hotels were made because the population is growing and the amount of land that these countries or even states are starting to perish and since the population is growing there is a need for more places for the working force and students to stay or live. My project relates to chapter 12, because it talks about services. The capsule hotels are a service to the consumers. New York city is the United State's primate city and its also a home to a capsule hotel. In chapter 13, it talks about urban patterns. This is related to my project because, now that these cities are becoming more of an urbanized area or a metropolitan statistical area, there needs to be caution about preserving more land.
What are capsule hotels?
Capsule hotels are small, compact, and cheap rooms provided to usually business men on the go. Capsule hotels are essentially just a place to sleep. Capsule hotels originated from Osaka, Japan in 1979 These hotels are Japan's most unique way of lodging. Most capsule hotels are found near big, well known train stations in major cities. This type of hotel is very popular with foreign tourist. For a night at these hotels, it is usually $30-$40 (3000 yen-4000 yen). Most capsules are fiberglass units but the capsules itself have very thin walls. The capsules usually come with a small television, earphones, blankets, a pillow, coat hooks, wifi, power outlets, and a blind for the door/window. Unlike other hotels, capsule hotels have steps for when you first arrive. The steps are to take off your shoes, get your keys for the locker, get hotel clothes, then take a bath or go into the sauna then get to bed. The hotel gives all the guest a gown or robe to lounge around in. The hotel also has vending machines, game rooms, libraries, laundry stations/rooms, and restuarants for all guest. Capsule hotels have been around Asia for decades and now are starting to diffuse to Europe and the United States.

This is a chart of the capsule unit room. It shows you where all of the big components in a capsules are located at. This would be very helpful and important to know as a tourist.
How do capsule hotels save land and money?
Capsule hotels are very compact but just enough space to sleep at the right price. Capsule hotels are around 1.2 meters wide, one meter high and 2 meters long. The capsules are also stacked 2 high. This basically shows how capsule hotels save so much space. Also in the steps you have to go through when you first arrive to get your capsule, it said that they give you a locker for all of your belongings in which saving quite a bit of space. As for money, a day in one of these capsules in just around $30-$50. In my video I have put in my article it says that from Monday-Thursday it would only cost 240 Hong Kong dollars ($30.96) for touist. For a student to stay for a month in one of the capsules, it would be 3500 Hong Kong dollars ($451.45). These are just the basic reasons why capsule hotels save money and land.
