What are GMO's?
Genetically modified organisms or GMO's, have taken the food market by storm, but have only been available since 1994, according to Rachael Mount's article on www.oprah.com/health. These modified organisms are simply the fruits and vegtables that you see everyday inside your local market, although their DNA has been changed for several advantages. In this article, we take a look into what those are.
Top GMO Advantages
1. Resistance to harmful weeds, diseases, and bacteria/bugs
While insect nibbling may have killed a plant before, the genetically modified plant can survive it. According to Joshua Duvauchelle at livestrong.com, GMO's have been modified so that they have more resistance to insects and pests. In turn, the need for pesticides is lower and costs the farmers less. That price is then lowered for the customers.

2. Bigger crop yields, utilizing less crop space, and saving on herbicides
These genetically modified organisms have had genes added which increase crop size, and resulting in less crop space wasted and less money spent on the chemicals, keeping the plants healthy. In this ever-growing world, space is becoming more expensive and so the cost of farming rises. GMO's provide a sustainable and efficient way of producing food for the masses.
