April 15, Patriots Day and also the biggest day in Boston. The Boston Marathon
would occur along with a Red Sox game. Around 2:45 a tragedy happened that would change the U.S for years to come. According to New York Dailey Times, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and Tamerlan Tsarneav set off the bombs at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. The bombs that killed 3 and injured many, were homemade by the men. According to New York Times, the men learned how to make the bombs from an online magazine, Inspire, provided by Al Qaeda. After many days of investigation, Fox News released the motive of the men. Dzhokhar had written on the inside of the boat, where he was found, "I can't stand to see such evil go unpunished. We Muslims are one body, you hurt one, you hurt all of us. Stop killing our innocent people and we will stop." The bombers were upset that Muslims were seen as a violent religion, although they were not a part of any terrorist group. The bombing at the Boston Marathon last year did not stop the runners and supporters this year! According to CBS News, 36,000 runners participated this year, which is the second largest amount of participants in The Boston Marathon history! CBS also says that 100 cameras were installed throughout the course, thousands of officers were put on the scene and 4 helicopters were constantly flying to make sure everyone was safe. Boston Marathon participant, Jason Parr says that the enviroment of the race was a feeling that people thought they needed to prove Americans were strong! He also says, the finish line was the greatest accomplishment for those who did not get to finsih last year. Every runner spent time at the finish line to remember the lives of those who were injured or hurt! The Boston Bombing can be indentified as a centripital force because the whole country came together as one in the time of need. Within 18 minutes of the explosions, all victims were removed from the scene and transported to the hospital. According to npr.org people sent quilts, running shoes, bears and many other items to Boston in tribute of the runners. Many organizations were created in honor of this horrible event. "One Run Boston" is a relay from LA to Boston, 2,000 runners participate in this relay! Blue and yellow scarfs were knitted and sent to the runner to show comfort and strength! NBC says that most of the runners are "running for those who can't". Although many flashbacks occur during this time, the people of Boston know they must stay strong and just keep running. Interview by Jenna Winebrenner. . : , . Print. I chose the Boston Marathon for my project because I love to run and hope someday I can go run in it. Also I think it is interesting how people can hate the United States, growing up here, I have never thought of anyone hating us. I liked learning the little details that not everyone heard!
